For any civilized nation, livability is critical to the establishment of a sustainable community. The term “livability” can be defined as factors that improves the quality of living such as amenities like green space and parks, health care institutes, cultural offerings, career opportunities, economic stability and a degree of safety.
To make Pakistan a better place to live, it needs to address sustainability and infrastructure issues.
There must be a team of think tanks and planners who need to focus on factors that significantly impact livability in a country. Some of these factors are:
1. Safety and health
2. Clean environment
3. Clean and affordable housing
4. Social well-being like access to recreational and entertainment, community centers
5. Education opportunities
6. Economic sustainability
7. Access to efficient and cheap public transportation
Critical Factors for the Success:
The critical success factor for the implementation of livability as an integral part of sustainable communities are:
1. The value of livability as an overall theme, among others, in the development of a community’s sustainability plan.
2. The role of public engagement in the articulation of what is meant by livability.
3. A recognition that livability extends to economic dynamism and career opportunities as well as recreational, cross-generational and cultural activities.
While we hope that these measures are taken by the state, we all as the citizens should do our part and abide by the laws like following the traffic signals, keeping the streets clean, giving way to ambulances on the road, reducing noise pollution, saving water and electricity and many other things that would certainly make Pakistan a great place to live.
A well written blog post Saleha. Quite thought-out and to the point measures defined for making Pakistant livability much better than it is at the present state of affairs.
Hope we all take necessary actions, collectively and even individually, to ensure our country, our home, raises back again to its former glory years.
